The Galvin Library, and its branch libraries, switched over to a new online catalog interface this summer.  It has a new look, improved search speed and additional functionality, such as user tags and comments.  There is also a feature called faceting, which is a way to narrow your search results by a specific subject, author, location, language and more.

For returning students, faculty and staff, this catalog requires that you create a new, personalized login name and password.  It will use your library borrower ID to link your new account to your existing library account.  In order to link correctly, the new user account page will ask for the following information:

• Bar code – your bar code is your IIT ID number that is on the front of your IIT ID card
• Last Name – the last name listed on your IIT ID card
• Library – Illinois Institute of Technology

In the “Basic Information” section of the new user account page, you can choose your own user name and password.  You can also choose to send information to an e-mail account other than your IIT e-mail address.  Click here to create your new account.

**Keep in mind that the library uses ONLY your IIT email account to send notification emails regarding your requested materials.

If you prefer to use the previous online catalog interface, simply click on the “Classic Search” button in the upper right-hand of the catalog screen.

The recent upgrade done by the Consortium for Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) has resulted in a new look and new features to both the IIT catalog and I-Share, the shared catalog of 76 universities in Illinois.

Users of the online catalog will still be able to request and renew items, as well as view delivery status, due date and fee information.  New features include:

• Subject and Author search tabs provide quick access
• Limits such as format, language and date easily added to your search
• Build your list of titles using “My List”
• Expanded details for requests, renewals and fines in “My Account”
• Improved access for adaptive/assistive technology
• Search tab features materials “New in the Catalog”

Users of the online catalog will notice changes to the design of the IIT local catalog over the coming weeks as we continue to customize the new search interface.
