Over 4,000 books from National Academies Press are now available to freely download as PDFs. The National Academies include:

  • National Academy of Sciences
  • National Academy of Engineering
  • Institute of Medicine
  • National Research Council

From the Chronicle of Higher Education’s Wired Campus blog:

Barbara Kline Pope, executive director for the press, said it had previously offered 65 percent of its titles—ones that were narrow in scope—for free. “The 35 percent that we are adding today will reach a wider audience, and we are doing it because it’s central to our mission to get this information to everyone,” she said.

The library’s e-books page has a link to the NAP website, or you could go to the NAP website directly. When you have found a book you want to download, simply click on “download free PDF” and follow the instructions:
