April 22, 2014 at 1:41 pm | Posted in Ask a Librarian, I-Share, library catalog | Comments Off on 4 New Libraries Added to I-Share: Borrow Their Books

book_imageIn March, four new library collections were added to I-Share, a shared online book database that Illinois Tech students, faculty, and staff can use. The new libraries joining  are College of DuPage Library in Glen Ellyn, JKM Library in Chicago, McKinstry Library at Lincoln College  in Lincoln, and Henry Pfeiffer Libraryat MacMurray College in Jacksonville. The collections are now fully accessible for borrowing and with the addition of these libraries, the I-Share union catalog now contains the holdings of 86 member institutions. Items range from the scholarly to bestsellers and patrons can request online for delivery at an IIT Library, or IIT patrons can walk in and borrow directly off the shelf from any I-Share member library.

Are YOU using I-Share? You should because if you’re not using I-Share you are missing out on borrowing more than 38 million items.  Unsure how to get started? Watch a video, read instructions, give us a call or stop by the Research Help Office on the upper level of Galvin Library for assistance. National Library Week April 13-19

April 14, 2014 at 1:49 pm | Posted in Ask a Librarian, events, National Library Week, Research Specialists | Comments Off on National Library Week April 13-19

heart of the book's pagesApril 13-19 is National Library Week and this year’s theme is Lives Change @ Your Library. Libraries are integral to their communities and the Paul V. Galvin Library is YOUR library. Galvin Library has expert and helpful staff, online books and articles NOT found on Google, and 24 hour spaces, both collaborative and quiet, making Galvin Library an integral part of YOUR university experience. Celebrate National Library Week with us in various ways.

Our student Research Specialists will be on the MTCC bridge from 12:40-1:50 Tuesday and Wednesday with prizes, testing your knowledge or seeking your opinion.

  • WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16  – Show Us What You Know (Galvin Library trivia game)
  • THURSDAY, APRIL 17 – Your Opinion Matters: Tell Us about YOUR library

Tuesday is National Library Workers Day so if you’re in the library, let library staff know how much you appreciate what they do!

All week inside the library we’ll be inviting you to our “graffiti wall” to Share Your Favorite Things @ Galvin Library, or share them on our Facebook page, and we’ll be passing out Lifesavers, because two weeks before IPRO and 3 weeks before Finals, librarians at Galvin Library might be just the “Lifesaver” you need to find statistics, quotes, peer reviewed articles and surveys that bolster your research and impress your professors. Stop by the Research Help Office on the upper level or contact us by IM, email or phone.
