Recruiting Volunteers for our Student Library Advocates

September 17, 2014 at 3:13 pm | Posted in Student Library Advocates | Comments Off on Recruiting Volunteers for our Student Library Advocates

heart of the book's pagesWe are recruiting students to join our Student Library Advocates and would love to include YOU!  Join our Student Library Advocates and help us spread the news about our services, programs and spaces that contribute to student success on campus.  The Paul V. Galvin Library is committed to enriching and enhancing the educational experience for students and to that end we will continue to work with students to gather input, but we also need students to assist us in outreach to the IIT community.  Advocates will be comprised of undergraduate and graduate students from various disciplines who will meet a few times each semester to:

• learn more about library services, collections and spaces
• develop effective communication strategies for reaching students
• foster programming ideas
• help identify trends in the student use of services and resources
• participate in the development of surveys or focus groups

Volunteering to join the Student Library Advocates will allow you to add an important line item on your resume under Campus Activities and Leadership Opportunities, but more importantly, it will also allow you to make an IMPACT on student life on campus.  If you are interested in participating, send us an email at library@iit.edu, write “Student Library Advocates” in the subject line and tell us three things:

• Your student status (undergraduate or graduate level)
• Major or intended course of study
• Why you would like to serve on the Student Library Advocates

Please submit your email of interest to library@iit.edu by Friday, September 26. The first meeting of Advocates will be Thursday, October 2. Board meetings are held from 12:50-1:40 PM and lunch is provided. New members will be notified by Monday, September 29.
