heart of the book's pagesApril 13-19 is National Library Week and this year’s theme is Lives Change @ Your Library. Libraries are integral to their communities and the Paul V. Galvin Library is YOUR library. Galvin Library has expert and helpful staff, online books and articles NOT found on Google, and 24 hour spaces, both collaborative and quiet, making Galvin Library an integral part of YOUR university experience. Celebrate National Library Week with us in various ways.

Our student Research Specialists will be on the MTCC bridge from 12:40-1:50 Tuesday and Wednesday with prizes, testing your knowledge or seeking your opinion.

  • WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16  – Show Us What You Know (Galvin Library trivia game)
  • THURSDAY, APRIL 17 – Your Opinion Matters: Tell Us about YOUR library

Tuesday is National Library Workers Day so if you’re in the library, let library staff know how much you appreciate what they do!

All week inside the library we’ll be inviting you to our “graffiti wall” to Share Your Favorite Things @ Galvin Library, or share them on our Facebook page, and we’ll be passing out Lifesavers, because two weeks before IPRO and 3 weeks before Finals, librarians at Galvin Library might be just the “Lifesaver” you need to find statistics, quotes, peer reviewed articles and surveys that bolster your research and impress your professors. Stop by the Research Help Office on the upper level or contact us by IM, email or phone.

Galvin Library NLW 2008 commemorative flying discThe wind was unpredictable, a few drops of rain fell, and the sky was overcast at times. But none of that stopped 111 people from participating in the Galvin Library’s first Circulate! Disc Golf Hole-in-One competition. Everyone was a winner, going home with a free Frisbee, snacks, and a smile. However, two contestants really stepped up and showed IIT how disc golf is done.

We’d like to congratulate the winners:

  • Jacob Ernst (Arch), 1st place
  • Christopher Lee (CAEE), 2nd place

Jacob and Christopher both won Barnes and Noble gift certificates for their nimble ‘bee tossing skills. Thank you all for joining us at the Galvin Library tee, tee #2, this past Thursday and Friday to celebrate National Library Week. It’s never too early to start practicing for next year…

Best Book Ever!?!

Got a favorite book you wish everyone knew about? Tell us about it! In honor of National Library Week (April 13-19th), Galvin Library will be honoring IIT students’ most beloved books.

Let us know in the comments below what your favorite book is, and why you love it so much. We’ll put a copy of your book on display next to the Circulation desk on the lower level of the library. Make it fun – that means no textbooks! (Well, OK, but only if it’s *really* your favorite book).

Don’t miss upcoming announcements on other National Library Week activities and contests!
